Are you interested in becoming a better musician? Improving your soloing? Becoming musically more “literate”? If you answered ‘yes’, this course is for you!
A working knowledge of the fundamentals of music will help you improve your overall musicianship in any situation.
You will learn how to:
– Master common chord progressions
– Notate melodies and rhythms
– Understand keys and transposition
– Recognize musical intervals and chord types by ear
– Improve soloing choices through understanding scale/chord relationships
– Improve your time and groove in various musical styles

Requirements:
Ability to play an instrument (guitar, keyboard etc.) or sing is helpful. Every participant will have access to guitars (both electric and acoustic), ukuleles, a drum kit and a piano that is in the room where the class is held. Working knowledge of the keyboard or guitar and the ability to play basic chords is recommended. If you own a guitar if it is recommended that you bring your guitar to class. If it is an electric lets us know in advance so we can provide everyone with an amp. Class size is limited to 6 people and spots are filled when prepayment is received in full. Barry’s Bio
A graduate of the University of Toronto, Barry Livingston has played at jazz festivals across Canada, and in New York City. He is a former member of the Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band and has also played with Juno-winning saxophonist, Jane Bunnett. He has attended the Banff Centre where he studied and collaborated with many jazz greats, including Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler, Muhal Richard Abrams and Don Thompson.
Barry is also a respected and established music educator, with over 20 years of experience, including Langara Community College and UTS. He also has hosted popular jazz and global music programs for CIUT FM (Toronto), and CFRO FM (Vancouver), and has contributed to CBC radio.

Payments can also be made in person at the Toronto Guitar School’s Yonge and Dundas location (116 Bond Street) by appointment only. Cheque, VISA, debit or cash are the accepted methods of payment at this location.
Payment must be received 24 hours prior to the start of the class to receive the discounted price otherwise the regular course rate of $275 applies. If you would like to join the class as a drop-in student the fee is $25 per class. Drop-ins will not be allowed past the 3rd class.
