Participants should be experienced songwriters that have at least a year’s worth of consistent songwriting experience and are comfortable performing in front of a group, familiar with typical pop chord progressions, and have a basic understanding of simple scales and chord relationships. Participants are expected to be familiar with the following concepts: verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, intro, outro, vamp, etc. The ability to play an instrument and accompany one’s self is strongly recommended.
COURSE OUTLINE – Topics covered will include:
Lyric Form and Structure – learn tools and techniques for writing better lyrics and rhymes.
Motifs – Why they are the backbone of every hit song, how to pick them out and use them in your own songs.

The use of the piano as an arrangement tool.
Rhythm, space, melody and harmony will be explored and how you can use these to maximum effect in your song arrangements.
How to create and write great bass lines.
Students will be shown how to notate their own rhythmic and melodic ideas to effectively communicate them to others both verbally and in written form.
