Manar Naeem is a self-taught Syrian oudist, oud instructor and physicist. She plays the oud with the Canadian Arabic Orchestra and teaches at the Canadian Arabic Conservatory of Music. Featured in CBC’s 2020 “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30” list, Manar is the first and only oudist to make it to the list with more than 5 years of experience touring and performing across Canada. Manar has performed as a soloist with the Toronto Mandolin Orchestra and was featured by the National Arts Centre. She is also an aspiring composer with 3 pieces to her name.
Manar moved to Canada after receiving a full scholarship to study Physics at Wilfrid Laurier University. She recently completed her master’s degree in Quantum Computing at IQC at the University of Waterloo. Manar has conducted research in quantum field theory with multiple publications, enjoying the interplay between music and physics.
