Liam is an electric and double bassist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and guitar and bass instructor. He began playing music at the age of 3 when he picked up his sister’s starter violin and began to imitate her playing. Over the following 15 years he studied a multitude of instruments including piano, clarinet, trumpet, french horn, drums, guitar and bass.
In 2004 he joined the afro-funk outfit, Mr. Something Something, and subsequently played well over a thousand shows with the band over the following 8 years. He recorded bass on all of their albums, including the 2007 Juno nominated album, The Edge. Also in 2007 he entered the Jazz and Contemporary Music program at Humber College in Toronto, Ontario.
Over the past 20 years he has recorded and performed with with a wide range of artists including The DoneFors, Fantahun Shewankochew, The Jessica Stuart Few, Surefire Sweat and Emily Millard. A lifetime student, performer and bass instructor, Smith has toured extensively both domestically and internationally. He is currently a member Idioteque, the Ole Fashion, and occasional bassist with Jaffa Road.
