DETAILED COURSE OBJECTIVES

To provide students with strong fundamentals in guitar essentials such as proper posture, hand and arm positions and finger technique such as hammer-ons and pull-offs. Graduates will have a firm knowledge of all the notes on the guitar fretboard and can easily switch between G, C, F, Dm, D7, A, Am, E and Em.

By the end of the course, students can expect to be comfortable reading tablature and be able to sight read basic rhythm, note and chord notation. They also should be confident playing in a group setting, switching between rhythm, lead and bass parts. Students will also be taught basic song structures, dynamics and other essential music elements.

The basic 12 bar blues form will also be taught. Introduction to keys and chord progressions and an overview of essential open chords, pentatonic scales and power chords will be provided.

Helpful guitar practice techniques will be also demonstrated and students will be shown how to work with a metronome. Students will develop a proficiency on the basic rhythms, chords and scales and be able to play simple melody riffs. Techniques for keeping time and practicing and counting rhythm will also be covered.

Group Performance Opportunity: All class participants will get the opportunity to perform with their class for a friendly and welcoming audience at the next scheduled Toronto Guitar School Social and Concert!
